Cumulus Inc., Melbourne

I've mentioned this before, but the one thing that will get me up bright and early on a weekend is the promise of a good breakfast. After a delayed 10pm flight into Melbourne and a late night out visiting different bars around the city, we still managed to get up in time for brekky at Cumulus Inc.

Organic orange juice and latte (part of the Cumulus Inc. Breakfast)

We were lucky enough to get a seat without having to wait and we desperately needed a caffeine hit so coffees were ordered. Sir D's latte and orange juice were part of the Cumulus Inc. Breakfast.

Cappuccino - $3.50

I had my sights set on other foods so I settled for a cappuccino which strangely enough came without the cocoa powder sprinkle on top of the lovely, thick milk froth.

Smoked salmon, 65/65 egg, sorrel, apple and dill - $17

I ordered the smoked salmon with 65/65 egg without hesitation. I love my soft boiled eggs but the runny yolk and just-cooked white of the slow cooked egg (cooked at 65ºC for 65 minutes) is my absolute favourite.

Check out that runny yolk!

And of course here is the obligatory runny yolk shot! This was a really well-balanced breakfast dish with a bit of saltiness from the smoked salmon and capers, slightly sweet, crunchy bursts from the Granny Smith apple batons and some fresh avocado chunks and salad leaves. The crusty bread was also great for mopping up any egg yolk on the plate.

Cumulus Inc. Breakfast - $16

The rest of Sir D's Cumulus Inc. Breakfast included a boiled egg, toast and yoghurt topped with stewed rhubarb and blueberries. The yolk of the boiled egg was also deliciously runny and I loved the combination of the tart rhubarb and sweet blueberries with the yoghurt.

Preserves (part of the Cumulus Inc. Breakfast)

I loved the little tray of preserves that accompanied the toast in the Cumulus. Inc Breakfast. There was an apricot jam, an orange marmalade and, my favourite, the strawberry jam.

Madeleine filled with lemon curd - $2.50

We couldn't leave without trying their madeleines which I'd heard were awesome. We ordered them in advance since they took 15 minutes to make and they came out fresh from the oven. These were the best madeleines I've ever had, and the lemon curd on the inside was luscious and sour, and perfect with the light, spongy cake on the outside and the crispy edges.

By the time we left there was a queue forming on the inside with people waiting to be seated. It seems to be a very popular breakfast place on the weekend so go early or be prepared to wait for a table. Melbourne never fails to amaze me with their breakfasts and Cumulus Inc. is definitely a place I'll be returning to on my next visit, even if it's just to grab a few lemon curd filled madeleines for the road!
